We live in a city with property taxes (like most cities). We recently had a city-wide property value reassessment (eventually these values tie into our property tax amount). People weren't happy, they went to the City Council meeting and made their voices heard.
The City Council canceled the entire thing and said "you are right, the process was not transparent, there were some unfair parts, we are starting over." How cool is that? The elected government responded to issues brought up by the people about the professional government. What a concept. If you are really interested, read the article here:

Politicians admit they are wrong? No smoke filled rooms? No secret deals or spying? What is this you write of? Democracy? Freedom? Openness? These concepts may have once existed in my state but now only in the history books.
