Today, not so much

Today was not a super productive day. Our young daughters didn't want to sleep last night and we stayed up late yesterday demolishing in the dark. It is nice having enough distance between our building and the neighbor, no worries about disturbing anybody.

The 3/4" plywood (permanently adhered to Ford era linoleum) is gone (our circular saw passed away in the process, the viewing will be Monday and services on Tuesday, at 4:00 PM). More plumbing removal work is done (cutting a 2" steel nipple laying on your back, fighting a reciprocating saw between two water pipes is not easy). The walls framing the previously existing bathroom features are gone. About 2,000 drywall nails from the kitchen and dining walls and ceiling are gone.

Sweeping compound in New York is dyed red. In Vermont it is green. The challenge to tonight's blog readers is to put up some comments on that. The easy one is NY is communist and VT is natural, so put all those big brains to work on something more clever. We are counting on certain people for good comments, they know who they are. Maybe something with blood and money or the US flag and the VT flag or roses and pine trees. This blog is only as good as the comments, so put them up. Even ones that seem mundane to you may be interesting to others.

No reportable injuries today (OSHA does not require we keep safety records for equipment, so the circular saw does not count). It has been 1.0 days since a reportable accident. The previous record was 4.0 days.

Tomorrow we purchase lumber yard items (insulation, doors, screws, windows, plywood, drywall, etc.) for delivery. Also we purchase some electrical components.

The newest plan is to complete the Phase 1 work on the 2 floor (which is 90% electrical) this week, allowing the door, window and cabinet time for delivery.

Finally it is snowing, hard (April 15, 2007). We expect 4-8" tomorrow on the ground. Please hope for warm weather, snow makes everything challenging.

(great post!) ... delicate flower - you are a freak (!), and yet i am continually drawn to your blog. (btw, nice reference to OSHA recordkeeping - and don't forget about your child labor activities) what is that about?!

The adolescents who worked here did not work more than the maximum for their age. They did not handle or operate any equipment the VT labor laws regulate (for their ages, it is mostly related to horsepower of tractor and other agricultural machinery).

Our children are allowed to work at any age, since the labor laws have exemptions for offspring of the employer.

The real question is, what is 4" or more of snow about?

I've enjoyed how you link all ages of your home's components to a presidential era. For some this undoubtedly provides an accurate measure of historicity. My brain simply does a conversion to

Old
Older
Really old
They made that then?

Just hope you reallize that you are cementing yourself into a position of referencing all your modern enhancements as BUSH ERA.

I imagine you may come up with an alternative.

Regardless, I would strongly suggest holding off all renovations til '08.

The presidential references made sense, we formerly lived in the United States. We will refer to our renovation as "Douglas Era" work. Learn about our leader:

Congrats on the house guys! Bill - you mustn't forget that not everyone has your superior knowledge about such things as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work. :)

I am amazed at how fast everything is coming down. Oh, and you never revealed your kitchen cabinet choice....inquiring minds need to know. And one more thing, I measured my snow fall this morning, and I received a total of 16". Here's hoping you only received the 4-8" you were expecting. Maybe May will be a better month!
