Shirlsd asked how electricity has changed from when the house was built to what we will want. In an effort to illustrate the point, here are electrical plans for phase 1. Other than the kitchen/bath renovation, we are adding overhead lights (potentially ceiling fans) into most of the rooms, adding smoke detectors and adding receptacles (outlets). Enjoy.
Notice we are doing a mixture of compact fluorescent lighting fixtures with incandescent. We are mixing some green in with the CF fixtures, but only in places where we expect a lot of run-hours. Longer run-hours leads to greater savings of our money and the environment. If this was California (land of Title 24), it would be 100% fluorescent.
We are adding ventilation fans that are through wall. If you look very closely at the photos of the house (or if you have ever worked in a cape) you'll know why we didn't do a ceiling mount, horizontal discharge type.

shirlsd personally says "thanks!" for the 'splaining.
so - i'm sure there are a few answers to this question - if California is land of Title 24 ... as well as the governator, Duke, and Mayor Gavin Newsom (the S.F. mayor - note - NOT "Frisco mayor"), ... then Vermont is _____?
Land of Liberty and Freedom.
Land of the great outdoors.
Land of few gun laws.
Land of trees not made from steel.
Can anybody add on?
how could you forget?
Vermont is a Republic
and I forgot ...
Vermont is all about kittens or biscuits
