Second door finish, thinking, lighting and PEX

Job one today was to reinstall the first floor leaky water closet. Here are some step by step photos of installing a new wax ring on the bowl, setting the new bolts and bolting it down.

Here you see evidence of our kitchen recessed fixture's efficiency. Title 24 is the California mandated efficiency standard, our fixtures meet it, they say so in three places (on the box, on the cardboard cutout and on the inside of the can).

Here is the PEX crimp tool (orange handles) The red handled pliers are billn's favorite Knipex pump pliers. They are here just for comparison. The PEX pliers ratchet closed and are GO/NOGO; one cannot do an incomplete joint. Here are 1/2" rings.

Here is a PEX (or PE, or PVC) cutter and the Knipex pump pliers.

Here is the ~50' of the old wire that fed the range. We wanted to reuse it, but modern codes require 3-wire, not 2-wire. Off to the scrap metal place it goes.

Here is the light switch you must engage when you enter the ground floor from the garage. Looks scary, it isn't.

Here is a 3-gang box with six 14-3 cables for the 4-way lights in the kitchen.

Here is another 3-gang box in the kitchen, this one with three 14-3 and three 14-2 cables.

Here is the icemaker box valve. This will be closed up in the wall and will provide a great place to connect the refrigerator water to. Very slick, very PEX.

Here is a box hold cut for an outlet, no wire pulled yet. Pliers are here just for fun.

Here is a completed box and pulled wires. The next step is after painting an outlet goes in this box.

Here is a hole with the wires pulled, but no box yet.

Here is the panel with all the circuits pulled to it, but no terminations yet. We have a few more to bring in, but this is the bulk of the circuits.

Drilling the hole down for the range power line.

Close up of one completed PEX crimp ring on the laundry rough in box.

Finished ceiling lighting for the kitchen.

100' coil of 1/2" PEX.

Today Jenm put a second coat of finish on the freedom door.

On second shift, Billn did some final plumbing thinking. He picked up the missing kitchen ceiling lights and installed them. He finalized the final locations and test-light all 11 fixtures. This room is very bright.

Billn also did detailed thinking on the plumbing system.

The new water system will include using straight well water for the hose bibs and to flush the first floor toilet. We will supply filtered, softened water to all the other domestic uses.

I like how you used the mirrors to create such a beautiful photographic masterpiece. Very well placed! Bravo!

I'm a fan for the liberal use of the red handled pliers.

The children are safe. That's all you need to know.

The red handled pliers are cousins of the red badge of courage, not at all related to the red communists that live in California. Of course Jon has little idea what that is, since he is a dirty liberal.
